JORDAN 2023

A Kaleidoscope of Stone, Sand, and History

1 photographs

Welcome to Jordan – a country that does not tell its stories in books, but has carved them directly into monumental rock, ancient marble, and endless desert sands. Traveling through this Hashemite Kingdom in the Middle East means embarking on a fascinating journey through time, guided by the light of the Orient, which illuminates the traces of millennia-old civilizations and breathtaking natural wonders in the most vibrant colors. This visual journey begins in the greener north of the country, where the ancient metropolis of Jerash brings the stony elegance of Roman antiquity vividly to life. The golden sunlight catches the monumental columns of the unique, oval forum and brightens the centuries-old paving stones of the Cardo Maximus, where you can still feel the echoes of Roman chariots. Following the path of history further south, the scenery changes dramatically, leading deep into the country's undisputed crown jewel: the legendary rock city of Petra. The approach itself is a visual masterpiece as you walk through the Siq, a dramatic, mile-long gorge of towering rock walls. At its end, the canyon suddenly opens to reveal the world-famous Treasury glowing in the soft morning light. The monumental facades of the ancient Nabataean city, carved directly into the rose-red sandstone, showcase a perfect symbiosis of human artistry and millions of years of natural formation. Yet, Jordan captivates not only through its culture but also through its raw, untouched nature, which unfolds even further south in the spectacular Wadi Rum. This UNESCO-protected desert wonderland, also known as the "Valley of the Moon," mesmerizes onlookers with its surreal interplay of deep red sand, bizarre rock arches, and towering monoliths. As the sun finally sets behind the dunes, the intense red of the desert gives way to an endless, star-studded sky blanketing the traditional Bedouin camps – a sight that perfectly captures the timeless magic and profound contrasts of this fascinating land.
